BOOK IT is an application for Android devices developed by Pizza Hut Inc. This utility encourages US children to develop a love for reading.
How it works
The app is part of the BOOK IT! National Reading Incentive Program. It motivates children to read more and build lifelong habits. This program targets students from kindergarten through sixth grade and runs for six months.
The core feature of the app is to track and reward a child’s progress. Kids are encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes a day for a minimum of 15 days during the summer months. Once this goal is met, the utility generates a code that can be redeemed at participating Pizza Hut locations for a free personal single-topping pan pizza.
Profiles and updates
Parents or teachers can create and manage profiles for children to monitor their reading activity as well as track progress. In addition, the app provides updates and information about the BOOK IT! program, including social media links on Twitter and Facebook. Thus, this application offers a unique opportunity to combine education with a fun reward system.
