Sodar is an application for Android devices that allows you to use your smartphone as an augmented reality tool. It will help you keep your distance from other people in public places.
What it offers
Health guidelines for social distancing during the pandemic typically advise keeping a safe distance from each other in public places. This application makes it easier to judge the correct value by superimposing a two meter visual radius ring on your smartphone’s camera view.
You will be put in the center of the mentioned ring that moves around along with you. If any nearby person comes inside the circumference of the radius, you will get a visual warning. The interface has a simple design and is similar to the mobile video game iPogo, which uses the perimeter augmented reality technology as well.
As stated by Google, this experiment uses WebXR API. It combines both AR and VR to make them more convenient and widely accessible.
Important note
It is worth noting that in order to use this application, your Android-based mobile phone must be compatible with ARCore technology. Google Play Services are also used for the utility to work properly with AR. It is possible to check the list of all supported device models on the corresponding website.
