Be My Eyes is an Android application from the international service of the same name for blind and visually impaired people. The utility allows people with vision problems to receive help from volunteers using video communication on smartphones.
Registration
The app provides the opportunity to create a profile of a blind person or a volunteer. Authorization in this service can be done by email, as well as by Google or Facebook accounts.
The utility unites people who can understand each other. Therefore, you need to select the spoken language and allow access to the microphone.
Be My Eyes allows you to subscribe to news from an extensive community. It has a Stories section containing stories about situations that occurred when receiving or providing assistance. Please note that they are available in English only.
The number of volunteers is 15 times greater than the number of visually impaired. Thus, blind people can contact a companion within a minute.
Video conference
This app uses communication via the camera of a smartphone. Just like VSee, the utility creates a video chat for a visually impaired or blind person and then connects a volunteer. Thanks to the active camera, the companion can see the objects surrounding the caller.
Blind people get the opportunity to ask about things that cannot be known without visual contact. For example, the color of clothing, the number of degrees on the thermometer, or the expiration date of the product.
The app provides a test call for training volunteers.
