HippoCamera is an application for Android devices that offers innovative technology to improve your memory. Scientists from the University of Toronto developed this utility.
Purposes
The app is designed primarily for older people with the initial stages of dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and other cognitive impairments, as well as for those who suffer from amnesia due to traumatic brain injury. At the same time, users of any age who want to improve their memory can apply this tool.
How to use
This utility mimics the work of the hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for the transition of short-term memory to long-term. Using this tool is extremely simple.
First, you need to choose a moment from your life that you would like to remember. Next, you have to record a short audio description of the event lasting 8 seconds.
After that, it is necessary to shoot 24 seconds of video of an important moment. In addition, you need to indicate the importance of the recorded memory by rating it from one to five stars.
Subsequently, the application offers you to replay the recording of events in an accelerated mode with your voice comments. It is possible to view up to five memories at the same time. The frequency with which they will be played depends on the degree of their importance.
The utility itself determines the time when the viewing of the recording will be most effective and improve the memorization of events. Furthermore, this tool offers you to reflect and form links between the events of the video you just watched. This allows you to create associations and consolidate memories.
