MTN MoMo is a Ugandan payment and money transfer application for Android mobile devices. The utility works essentially like a digital wallet allowing users to easily and quickly send funds to enterprises as well as each other.

Mobile money

This utility is a typical online electronic payment service operating in Uganda. There are many applications like this, for instance, VodaPay offers similar functionality for people from South Africa.

Before starting to use MTN MoMo, it is necessary to transfer money to your internal wallet. Unfortunately, the system does not support linking bank cards. Once you have some Ugandan shillings on your balance, it is possible to access all the functions the service provides.

Payments

The application offers two main services. Firstly, you can send money to other people. Conveniently, the utility supports transferring funds not only to other users registered in the system but also to persons who do not have an MTN Momo account. The latter, however, requires you to pay a certain commission to the service. Similarly, you may send money to any bank account in Uganda.

Secondly, it is possible to pay for various services. Besides electricity, water and other bills, you can top up your airtime balance, get more mobile data or purchase voice bundles.
