RealityScan is an Android application that allows users to scan a real-world object using their smartphone’s camera. It is possible to create realistic three-dimensional models with cloud data processing. The utility is created by the developers of the well-known Unreal Engine.
Note
Please note that to use this application, you need to have a fairly modern device with the latest versions of the operating system.
Scanning
The camera of your smartphone is applied to scan objects shooting multiple pics in 360° mode. Based on the obtained images, a 3D model of the item is formed.
There are detailed instructions and recommendations as well as tips for getting the best scan results. You can use the preview mode for adjusting shades. Moreover, there is a cropping box that allows you to cut out the desired objects from the overall picture.
Processing
Data processing in the cloud is done automatically. It will take a few minutes. As a result, you get a complete and realistic 3D model. It is possible to upload it directly to the Sketchfab platform.
Additionally, you can use the resulting models in games, various AR and VR projects, as well as for 3D visualization and printing.
Remark
Unfortunately, at the moment this application is implemented only for the iOS platform. The utility will be added to the website immediately after the release of the Android version.
