ShakeAlertLA is an Android application, which is an early warning system. It sends messages about the earthquakes that have been detected. You can receive the alert before, during, and after shaking. As soon as you view the notification, you have an option to take the necessary steps to stay safe.
Purposes and opportunities
This official app only works in Los Angeles County, California. To get alerts the utility does not need to be open. It is running in the background. However, you have to set the phone’s location services to “always on” for ShakeAlertLA.
Please note, that this app does not provide earthquake predictions. It signals that the shake started.
Notifications and information
This utility sends notifications when a 4.5 or greater earthquake happens. It offers some useful tips that help to prepare for shakes. There is information about choosing safe places and building a kit with food, water, and medications. Moreover, a separate tab with an alert map is provided.
