Wordle is an online word game for Android that went viral thanks to its simplicity and availability. Players of this popular puzzle have to guess a five-letter word with each attempt giving more clues.
The game developer, a software engineer from Brooklyn named Josh Wardle, created this famous puzzle to entertain his partner during the coronavirus pandemic. Wordle quickly gained popularity and later was purchased by The New York Times Company for their collection of word games. Luckily, the puzzle remains free with no ads to help the new owner attract more subscribers.
Wordle uses very simple mechanics that have been around for decades. In order to win, players have to guess a five-letter word with six tries. After each attempt, it is possible to see which letters were correct and in the right position, which ones were in the incorrect position, and which letters are not in the answer.
If you find the game too easy, you may try the hard mode. Here, you are required to use found letters in the next attempt. In case you are interested in other games, you can download Epic Games.
Only one word is available per day, and it is the same for everyone. Thus, after each game, players have to wait for the next day to play again. However, the sudden popularity of Wordle led to the creation of numerous clones, cheat websites, and game archives that allow you to play unrestrictedly.
Wordle has a very simple interface which undoubtedly helped with the game’s popularity. Besides, players can share their results on Twitter as a grid of colored square emojis. This witty solution allows you to compare your path with others without spoilers.
