ResAppDx is a telemedicine Android application. The utility operates based on an algorithm capable of diagnosing respiratory diseases by the sound of a patient’s cough.
About
The platform was originally developed by an Australian company as a pneumonia detecting tool. In 2022, the algorithm was adapted to diagnose COVID-19. At the same time, Pfizer acquired the company. Currently, the pharmaceutical giant continues to develop the technology.
Analysis
The application is designed to help physicians to establish a primary diagnosis. The utility analyzes the cough sound, which maintains key information about the state of the respiratory tract.
Previously, medical professionals had to perform this analysis manually using a stethoscope. The developers claim that the application can automate this process as well as eliminate direct contact with an infected patient.
The creators of the app used the machine learning method during the development. An AI-based algorithm analyzed thousands of cough audio recordings matched with already known clinical diagnoses. Based on these data, developers collected combinations of characteristics indicating the presence of coronavirus infection.
Diagnostics
The utility does not require any additional hardware. The patient needs to record the coughing sound using the microphone of a mobile device. As a result, the app analyzes the data and reports the estimated diagnosis.
Please note that patient information remains completely confidential. Uploaded sounds are stored in the database in an anonymous form.
