Word Lens is an Android application that allows you to translate text using the cellphone’s camera. There are also text and voice interpretation options.
Usability
Word Lens automatically detects the language and provides instant translations for convenient bilingual conversation. There is a split-screen mode that allows both participants to input text or voice messages.
In addition, it is possible to take pictures with your smartphone’s camera and translate the text on the image into more than 70 languages.
Please note that the Camera translator is not available for free. To get access to locked features and remove ads, you have to purchase a monthly subscription. In addition, it is possible to buy the app permanently and save up to 70 percent of the price.
Testing
As of this writing, most of the features of the app work correctly. Nonetheless, there are some bags and free version limitations that might be inconvenient to users.
For example, the voice translator does not always respond. It is not clear when you need to start recording the voice message because there are no indications or control buttons.
Unlike more advanced apps like Proofreading, here you have to sit through long ads, that might be quite inconvenient during real-life conversations.
